OMFG James Bond!!!!!
I can't believe it, I saw the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace! It was so amazing, I almost fainted like 35 times! James Bond was so frickin' kick-A that I almost blow my L! I was concerned that I wouldn't like the model they chose for the car, but after the door fell off in the chase scene, it was simply darling! I was a little worried that the bond girls wouldn't have shiny enough clothes, but I loved them! I was also worried that the french bad guy wouldn't be scary enough, but he was delightfully terrifying (I had to squeeze Verity's hand when he appeared on screen). I read the book and it had nothing to do with the film, but I think that if you read the book, you will love the film! Just to be kind to others enjoying the luscious film, you are only allowed one girlish scream every 15 minutes….” Hahaha! The only bad part was the awful preview for some vampire movie. Who the hell would watch that...

Cribs: Honkey Kong and Bit O' Honey Edition
This is a momentous post for two reasons:
1. You now know Jason and Verity's rap names (guess which one belongs to whom)
2. You finally get to see pictures our new house.
We have held off posting photos until 75% of our stuff was unpacked. So here it is!
The master bedroom. While we were at the apartment, we had a bedroom set, but we gave it to my brother when we moved into my mom's house. We have found one that we like at Ashley Furniture, we just have to order it and have it delivered. This is the only room we have painted so far.
The master bathroom. It is only a half bath, but in our price range, it was rare to find more than one bath, so we are very happy to have it. This was the color that was originally in the bedroom. It looks ok in a small space like this, but not in a large room.
The main bathroom. Luckily, the previous owners barely updated this room, so it looks really nice, and we don't have to fix anything right away. It is a good size, though we miss having double sinks (maybe in the future).
The spare bedroom. As you can tell, this room is currently functioning as Jason's workout/rockout room. When we eventually succumb to pressure and have kids, this is where they will sleep. Until then, it will be filled with Jason's awesomeness.
The office. The picture turned out way to dark, but you can see that this is our office.
Our living room. The place where we spend the most amount of time, especially since we have gotten cable. This room also features our touch lamp, one of the best things ever invented.
The living room, part two. Here you can see the fireplace and a better view of the windows. Our house gets a lot of light, and during the day, we hardly ever turn on the lights.
The entry/foyer. The door opens right into the kitchen, which is a bit unusual (and means that I alway need to try and keep the kitchen clean).
The kitchen. This was also updated by the previous owners. I was so happy we could fit our table here, and even though I hate the sink (never, ever buy a white sink-worst idea ever!), everything else is very nice.
The laundry/mud room. Pretty self explanatory-this is were we do laundry. Our water heater is also here, but our furnace lives in the crawl space, which sucks for Jason, since I refuse to go down there.
The garage. This was another thing we lucked out on. Most houses we looked at only had carports, so just a one car garage is really nice. Of course, we cannot actually park in it because of all the stuff in the way, but eventually it might serve its purpose. You can't see it, but Jason built a mini climbing wall by the door.
The front of the house/yard. We haven't had a chance to do much landscaping because of the weather, but we did pull out all of the ivy that was growing in front of the house, so in spring we can put in a flower bed. By the time we moved in, the grass was hopeless, but Scott has graciously offered to help revive it in the spring.
The back yard. As you can see, nothing has really been done to the back yard. Jason has lots of plans in the spring, but for now, it doesn't have much use for us. It is a good size, and we like the patio.

Jason loves Batman. He also loves playing the Wii. And Legos were his favorite toy as a child (and let's go ahead and admit it, even as an adult). When the three combine, what do you get?Three hours of the continual comment: "This is so awesome!" and plenty of wife ignoring.

Finally...A House!
So we finally found our first house! Though we thought it was impossible, we found a great house in Holladay for under $22o,000. We put an offer in last Saturday, it was accepted on Monday and we had an inspection done on Friday. We will close on September 26, though we will not receive keys until September 29. Ironically enough, that is my birthday, so I guess I can say that I got a house as a birthday present. We won't move in until the first weekend in October, since both of us will be in school and have classes at night. The house is a really good deal, considering the location and the great shape it is in. It is an older home, but has been completely updated inside, has a new roof, furnace, kitchen and bath remodel, etc. Compared to what were looking at before (ie shag carpeting, wood paneling, layers of dirt and grime) this house is almost brand new!
Here are the stats:

3 bedrooms
1 full bath, 1/2 bath off master
Brand new eat in kitchen
Nice living room with fireplace and mountain view
Laundry/mud room
1 car garage with opener
Scary crawlspace (Jason will be the only one going down there)

Neighbors do not park their cars on the lawn and seem relatively normal
Hopefully not haunted
Property taxes: sure to skyrocket!
Better than your house (yeah, that's right)
I would put up pictures, but I am lazy and don't want to try and find the MLS listing. By the way, if you are looking for a good real estate agent or a house inspector, we stumbled upon two great ones and could give you their information.
But the best part about buying a new house? No, not the fact that we will not be financially bound to Transwest Credit Union for the next 30 years. We will finally get to sleep on a queen sized bed again! Can't wait!

Bad News...and a lesson learned
So last night, Jason's car was broken into. He found out this morning, when he noticed that his school bag was not in the trunk. He came inside to look for it, but it was not in the house. Luckily, they did not break any windows to get in, but used a "Slim Jim" (a thin piece of metal that be used to jimmy a lock) to break in. Jason had his school bag (with all of his notes, books, calculator) and his gym bag (with clothes, his Zune, and an expensive pair of shoes) in the trunk, and that is all they took. You could tell they had rifled through everything else, but didn't find anything that looked valuable. We called the sheriff, and an officer came to take an inventory of what was stolen. Overall, the value was about $400, so not really enough to take out an insurance claim and justify the higher rates, so we will just have to take the loss. Jason was most upset about his school bag, since it had his notes and assignments from the past semester. However, we had some good luck when somebody turned his school bag into the police station, and everything was intact! The person found the bag a few streets away (it had obviously been dumped) and the officer indicated that there had been more robberies in the neighborhood. We are so lucky to have gotten that stuff back! Otherwise, Jason would have had a really hard time with finals.
In light of what happened to us: don't leave stuff in your car! Even things like school bags can be attractive, since textbooks are super expensive and many people know that you can sell them on online or to bookstores. We definately learned our lesson.
As random note, when we told the officer they had stolen a Zune, he told us that his aunt was selling brand new one for 120 dollars, so we are actually going to buy it (since they are normally 200 dollars) and we figure we can probably trust a cop (especially since he gave us his cell number). Guess we have some luck.
In light of what happened to us: don't leave stuff in your car! Even things like school bags can be attractive, since textbooks are super expensive and many people know that you can sell them on online or to bookstores. We definately learned our lesson.

So I figured it was about time I updated our blog, since I have been pretty lax in posting. Here is the life of Jason and Verity thus far:
Austin:
This last weekend, we were in Austin, Texas. I went to Austin for a user's conference for the computer system we use in my office, and I took Jason with me so that I could have someone to get me company in the evening. We had to take separate flights, since Jason can't miss any classes this summer, but we both ended up getting there on time and in one piece. Austin is the capitol of Texas (a fact that neither of us realized until we were at the actual capitol building) and is a pretty nice city. It is known for its nightlife, especially the live music venues, but we didn't really partake in much of that. We did have really good food (real Texas BBQ, homemade ice cream) and it was nice to have a laid back, mini vacation. Of course, Texas is really humid and hot, so walking around in the 90 degree heat and 90 percent humidity=instant sweatsoak, but we made the best of it. We had planned on going kayaking on the Town Lake (a big river that run through the center of the city, why they call it a lake I will never know), but decided at the last minute not to. Since Batman came out last weekend, we decided at the last minute to find a movie theater in downtown Austin. Bad idea-the only one close enough to walk to was an IMAX theater, and it was crazy crowded, so we nixed those plans and went swimming instead. Coming home, we barely made our connecting flight (thanks, failing air transport system!) but we finally made it back to Salt Lake, land of 100 degree dry heat (I will never complain about it again...well, not really, but I least I know now that it could be worse).
Primary:
So, we have been in our new ward (my old home ward) for about 4 months, and a few weeks ago (yes, we skip a lot of church) the bishopric finally gave us a calling. Now, what kind of calling would they give a young, married couple in a ward where the average age is 65? You guessed it: primary! I actually like primary, and I was lucky to be paired with my mom, who has been teaching the 9 year olds for about a year and has them pretty well trained. Jason, on the other hand, likes the kids but not sharing time (too much "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam puts him on edge, I guess). He was originally assigned to teach the 7-8 year olds, but it was changed to the 10 year olds the next week. He is part of a teaching pair, so he will only have to teach every other Sunday (same with me). This Sunday, since only 2 kids showed up to my class, we decided to combine them. Since we didn't know what lesson we were supposed to teach, Jason pulled out the old plan of salvation diagram. Actually, it was really cool to see how much the kids already knew and understood. I hope this works out. Jason is a little disappointment to be in the primary again, but I think it works well for us because we don't have a lot of time to devote to a larger calling, and primary lets us still be involved but not overextended.
Obligatory Batman post
Due to the aforementioned problems in Austin, we did not see Batman until Tuesday night. We made a mistake when ordering our tickets and wound up all the way at Jordan Landing (which is not incredibly close to our house in Holladay), but at least it was a nice theater. We were very happy to see the new James Bond preview, "The Quantum of Solace" (bad title, kick ass preview). They filmed part of the movie in Bregenz, Austria, on a lake called the Borden See, and we visited there last May, so it was cool to see in the movie. As far as Batman, I really liked it. I don't necessarily think it was better than "Batman Begins" (I would say they are equal in awesomeness), but I did think Heath Ledger's performance was impeccable. He made the Joker such a intriguing and engaging (not to mention crazy) character, and I am very sad he will not be in the next one. I am so glad they replaced Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllanhael (since she can, you know, act) and liked that Christian Bale was as hot as ever. That was probably the most important part of all, actually.
Houses:
Of course, our house search continues. The more I look at houses, the more I think to myself "WTF are people thinking"? Pink carpet? Purple tile? I know everyone has their individual taste, but really-1970 was 40 years ago, time to change, or drop your over inflated price, because no one want your wood paneling-no one.
On a happy note, we did find a house that:
-Is in Holladay
-Is under 250000 (not common in Holladay)
-Does not feature pink carpet, purple tile or wood paneling
-Fulfills most of needs (since we are, as real estate agents like to say "picky buyers", this is rare indeed)
We'll keep you updated if we become closer to moving out of my parent's basement and into the grown up world of home ownership.
Next on the Jason/Verity Agenda of fun:
-On Thursday, Verity is going to see Mamma Mia, a musical based solely from ABBA songs. Jason will instead opt to stay at work, because he has never listened to an ABBA song all the way through, and would like to keep it that way.
-On Friday, we will spend time with our friends, something that happens rarely in our life. We are not antisocial, we just have friends who have lives and therefore, no time.

5 recent pieces of mail I've received: bank statement, costco coupons, change of address form from post office, late library book notice and magazines
5 things I would do if I became a billionaire: buy a house, go on a trip around the world, pay for Jason to climb Mount Everest and the resulting medical bills for when he freezes his face off), buy some outrageously priced goods and give the rest away
5 of my bad habits: biting my nails, not answering my cell phone, not washing the dishes right away, eating bad food and drinking Diet Coke every day
5 good memories: meeting Jason, getting married,the day I got the job at Westminster, graduating college and going to London
5 films I watch over and over again: I usually don't watch movies more than once

Spring Break!
Since it was Westminster's Spring Break, Jason and I decided to go to Moab. We had originally planned to go last October, but the weekend we were going to go was the same weekend as the annual Jeep Safari Tour. So we rescheduled to last weekend, and prayed that it would be warm enough to camp. We left SLC around 6:30 AM to beat traffic and made it to Moab right at 11:00. We had brunch at the Moab Diner and walked around town a bit. The peak season officially starts on March 1, so a lot of things were still closed. After that, we went to set up our camp along the Colorado River. We had just bought a new tent at REI and had never put it together, and the instructions were not clear at all, so it took us a while to put the tent together. We finally figured it out and went to blow up our air mattress. Of course, we had checked the air pump at home and it worked fine, but when we tried to use it at our campsite, it ran out of battery right way. So it was back to Moab to find a new pump or a new mattress. Luckily, we found a pump for a good price and were able to finish pumping up the mattress. After we set up camp, we decided to go into Arches National Park and hike to the Delicate Arch. Jason had never been to Moab before, so he was really excited to see everything. The weather was perfect for hiking, about 65 degrees. There were some patches of snow on the trail, but otherwise everything was very spring-like. It was not very crowded either, so we almost had the place to ourselves. You can hike right up to the arch itself, and Jason pointed out the rope marks from the guy who illegally climbed it last year. After Delicate Arch, we decided to go back to our camp and make dinner. We always have hot dogs and smores at least one night when we go camping, so that was our first meal. After dinner, I started to feel really sick and we had to go into Moab again to find some medicine. Luckily, Jason was very patient with me and I started to feel better soon.
On Saturday, we went back to Arches and signed up for a tour of the Fiery Furnace. It is a really cool canyon with lots of formations and arches. It is very easy to get lost, though, so it is recommended to go on a ranger tour first so that you can get a feel for the area. It was really windy, so we got a bit of a sand bath, but it was well worth it. At the vistor's center, we had seen a weather forecast for a 40 percent chance of snow, so we were debating whether to stay over Saturday night or drive home. After we left the Fiery Furnace, the clouds were looking pretty menacing, so we opted to back up and head home. We made it to Salina, stopped there for gas and got on a small highway that would take us to Scipio and then to I-15. Just as we got on the highway, it started to snow. There wasn't much coming down, but because it was so windy, it was pretty much white-out conditions. We finally made it to Scipio and decided there was no way we were going to try the freeway home, so we checked into the only hotel in town for the night. Everyone else who was with us on the highway checked in as well, so we weren't the only ones who gave up on driving. It was not what we had planned, but it was sleeping in a tent in the snow. Even with all the mishaps, it was still a fun trip. Maybe next time things will go a little more smoothly!

It is an interview with a high-ranking bishop in the Church of England about the mainstream Christian view of heaven and how it is misunderstood according to verses from the New Testament. Look, Mom and the rest of the Internet, we have a blog!
This is the beginning of Jason and Verity's blog! (though Jason will probably never write on it) In case you are wondering, the incredibly clever title comes from the best show ever made about two folk-parody band mates who come from New Zealand to New York to make it big and also sing songs about racist dragons. If you have not yet seen it, you either don't like things that are funny or perchance do not have HBO. Either way, you must enrich your life with the wonderous sounds of Bret and Jemaine fortnightly.
